Why Outruns
Outruns exists to help organizations and their partners collaborate, prove what they claim, and earn each other’s trust. We care about the work that crosses organizational boundaries: a product moving through a supply chain, information passing between partners, a decision that someone else will later need to understand and rely on.
Our founding team’s work history reflects that purpose. The projects Outruns works on connect people with different responsibilities, systems, and ways of working. They require careful attention to what information means, where it came from, and who has the authority to act on it. That understanding informs the questions we ask and the systems we design.
We believe software should fit the work people need to do. An organization can invest heavily in configuring and customizing a product and still find itself working around the assumptions built into it. Over time, each workaround can make the next change harder and the dependence deeper. We begin by understanding the work, then decide what to reuse, what to build, and how to preserve the client’s choices as its needs evolve.
Established open-source components provide the foundations. Custom development addresses the workflows, rules, and experiences that need to reflect the client. Open standards, documented interfaces, and modular design support improving or replacing individual parts over time. Other teams can understand and extend the work. The investment builds a platform the client owns, with the freedom to take it further.
We work as one accountable team from the initial discussions through design, development, and operation. Clients work directly with the people making and implementing the engineering decisions. As an AI-native studio, we use agents to help develop and test software, and build assistance into the systems we deliver. People retain responsibility for the decisions and the quality of the work.
Ownership is part of that relationship. Clients own the commissioned software and receive the source, tests, deployment instructions, and documentation needed to develop it further. They control where it runs and can choose who operates, maintains, or extends it. Outruns charges no software license, subscription, or usage fees. Our business is the engineering, support, and continuing work clients choose to entrust to us.
We want to build things that remain useful as organizations change, and relationships that last because people value working with us. The client’s freedom to take the work forward is part of a successful delivery.
